Grading & PowerSchool

Please read below about the updated grading policy for North Country Supervisory Union:

Students are assessed at their level of proficiency. In proficiency-based assessment, the goal is for students to be meeting the grade-level standard independently.

At the Junior High, our Habits of Work and Learning are respect, responsibility, and perseverance. Students know these as our three school-wide PBIS expectations. Students will be assessed on these HOWLs in a variety of classes. Students may want to think about a goal to help them consistently show respect, responsibility, and perseverance throughout their day!

Viewing Standards-Based Grades in PowerSchool

From a web browser:

When logging in to PowerSchool, you are automatically brought to the Grades and Attendance tab. Where you used to see a letter grade in each trimester column, you now see the [i] symbol. Clicking on this symbol for the current trimester, will show you a detailed list of assignments and scores from that class.

Clicking on that [i] symbol brings you to this page. It shows each assignment from the class. Each assignment has a blue button beside it. Clicking that button shows you each standard associated with that assignment, and the score that the student received.

The drop-down list will show you which proficiencies were assessed and which score the student received. (See above charts for score definitions.)

Clicking the arrow next to a class shows the averaged score for each of the areas assessed.

From the app:

When logging in, the default screen is your "feed". No GPA will appear in the top box, as points are no longer awarded for assignments. Scroll down to select a class.
For each class, there are a number of options. First, select the correct Trimester at the top of the screen.
Under the assignments column, a list of assignments will appear. Clicking on an assignment will show you the details of the assignment, but will not display a final score.
The standards tab will show you all of the proficiencies that could be assessed in this particular class.
Scores will appear on the far right for standards that have been assessed during that trimester.
Clicking on one proficiency will show you the language of the proficiency being assessed and the level at which the student is working within that proficiency.

While the app is certainly helpful for up-to-date information about student attendance and upcoming assignments, the web browser is the best way to access detailed information about assignments and student performance.
