Ski & Snowboard Club
We are pleased to announce that North Country Union Junior High School will once again offer students the opportunity to participate in a ski/snowboard club this winter at Jay Peak Resort. We will also be offering Nordic skiing/snowshoeing this winter, however, due to complications with scheduling the Ice Haus, we will not be offering ice skating this season.
Parents: Please complete these online waivers
Trip Dates: 1/10, 1/24, 3/6, 3/13, 3/27, 4/16
Time: Students will depart North Country Junior High School at 8:30 am and will depart Jay Peak at 2:00 pm. Please be aware that students will return back to school around 3 pm and should be able to take their regularly scheduled transportation home.
Eligibility: Students are eligible for the ski and ride club if they:
- Have no disciplinary planning room referrals on any day leading up to a trip.
- Have paid the required trip fees to either Ms. Hilliker or Mr. Thumma at least 5 days prior to any trip.
**Students are responsible for making up any work missed due to ski/snowboard club trips**
Cost: Jay Peak policy states that all school-based ski and ride participants will take a lesson upon arrival at the mountain, no exceptions. As such, pricing for this season is as follows:
- Lift Ticket and Lesson: $12/trip
- Equipment Rental (Ski or Snowboard): $6/trip
($18 total for lift ticket, lesson, and rental)
- Student with season pass and their own gear: $0
- Nordic Skiing/Snowshoeing: $12
Straight A Students:
With our new standards-based grading system, straight A student eligibility is determined by student HOWLs scores obtained during the first trimester. A list of students eligible for this program will be forwarded to Jay Peak and students can then obtain their pass from any customer service location. Passes should be picked up prior to the first ski and ride club trip on 1/10.
**Students that hold a Jay Peak Season do not need to pay for lift/lesson tickets**
- Straight A students will still need to pay for rental gear if they do not have their own equipment.
- If your student is interested in participating, but monetary considerations are preventing this from happening, please reach out to Mr. Thumma privately to discuss options.
Lessons will run one hour in length and vary depending upon ability level. Initially, student level placement will be determined by information provided by students and parents/guardians. Once in the lesson, Jay Peak instructors will determine whether the student is in the correct lesson or if the students needs to be moved to another level of instruction.
Once a snowsports discipline is selected (skiing/snowboarding), students may not switch to a different discipline.
**FAIR WARNING** If a student places themselves in a group that is clearly above their ability level in order to hang out with friends, they will forefeit the next ski club trip. DO NOT let this happen to you. Place yourself in the correct group that corresponds to your ability level.
Chaperones: Jay Peak requires a 6-to-1 staff to student ratio. As such, parent chaperones will be needed for the trips. If parents are interested, and are registered as chaperones with North Country Supervisory Union, please contact Mr. Thumma as soon as possible (contact information is listed below).
Parent chaperone tickets are free for the 2018/2019 season, and the mountain is also offering a complimentary ticket for each day chaperoned if interested chaperones attend a chaperone training session at Jay Peak. Only one session needs to be completed in order to qualify for this perk, and the dates/times of the sessions are as follows: LOCATION TBD
· December 14th –(PM)
· January 5th—(AM)
Chaperones will meet in the Junior High cafeteria at 8:15 on the day of the trip and will be asked to accompany us on the bus to and from the mountain to help monitor students.
All risk and liability waivers and rental forms are online this year. Please note, if you do not know the answer to any question, just write N/A or 0. (Click here)
All registration and rental forms must be filled out ASAP. Any student who does not have these forms completed prior to the trip will not be able to attend.
As a Jay Peak foundations school, all members of the North Country Junior High community are eligible for discounted season passes at the mountain.
On non-school ski days, foundation students receive $15 rentals and $30 lift tickets with a valid school ID.
Parent Pick-Up at the Mountain:
If you would like to pick up your child from the mountain on the day of a trip, a signed note must be received in the front office at least 2 days prior to any scheduled trip. This note must detail the names of the individuals that will be responsible for picking up the student at the mountain.
